Floorcloths originated in seaports on the east coast of North America. They were made from leftover sail canvas and sealed with boat varnish. Less expensive than imported carpets, they provided much-needed colour. These floorcloths are made of ten-ounce primed canvas. Painted with acrylics, they are then given three coats of water soluble varnish.
